A tree planted by streams of water

Lianne – 1.1.22

So I thought I’d kick off the new year with one of my favourite (yet challenging) scriptures. I remember hearing one of the most challenging talks when I was 16, by Pastor Mulinde at a prayer conference in Uganda and oh how this word has stayed with me – the call to be set apart for the Lord.

How I so fall short of this but how my heart longs to delight more in God’s word.

I love this beautiful picture of this incredible, vibrant tree, surrounded by streams of water; whatever it does prospers. Isn’t this scripture so encouraging at the same time as challenging?

Praying that God will help us by his Holy Spirit to set us apart for him. To be in the world but not of it. That God will purify our hearts and that as we spend time meditating on his word, we will be like this tree yielding fruit, not withering away; prospering for God in all we do.

Psalm 1

Blessed is the one, who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.
