“Where are you? I love you. I’m coming to give you a hug.” I heard this call from my youngest this morning. He ran from the top of the house to give me a cuddle.
“What did you do?” I asked suspiciously. I was having a difficult moment just before and this was the encouragement I needed, but it did seem to come out of nowhere. “Did you bring down your bedroom curtains again?” I pulled him onto my lap and gave him a cuddle. “I love you, even if you did do something naughty. I love you, too!”
He looked at me very seriously and said (source of his inspiration to follow), “God loves us just because. If God loved you because you were kind, if you stopped being kind, he would stop loving you. If he loved you because you loved him… (dramatic pause and eyebrow raise)… he would stop loving you. But, he loves you, just because. It says so in ‘Thoughts to make your heart sing.'” He brought the book to me and he was quoting fairly accurately. So, thank you, Sally Lloyd-Jones and Jago and Zonderkids, for being part of my son’s building blocks of wisdom.
Okay, so I rate and recommend that book. It made my heart pretty happy. I also recommend a massive hug when you’re stuck on something on the computer and the morning is slipping away. I stopped the work, had the hug and recorded the moment, but I’ll go back to my work with a happier heart and encouraged that God does love me, just because he does. This week, a week of unprecedented pressure, he has sent people to do just that, love me, and be the answer to necessary things.
