Every Hidden Thing

Stien – 17th September 2021

This morning I tried to recreate in my mind the sky that had surprised me as I arrived home last night. The rays of light, the edged gold of the clouds and the clarity of the blue joined together in a harmony of colour. I was thinking about how, instead of using photographs printed out, I share memories on Facebook, so I can see them later that day. I had a smile as I realised that God doesn’t need to look back at memories foggily. He can see everything that has been. I have enjoyed the understanding in the last few years that when something is lost, God knows exactly where it is. While it is hidden from me, it’s obvious to him, just like the time my colourblind father couldn’t see his bright red hammer in the garden. It has helped me to pray differently when something seems lost. I can’t walk down a woodland path without loving that there is not a life of a tiny leaf in the undergrowth that he has missed, or a blackberry that went unnoticed by him. Not one bloom of a beautiful flower is wasted. God sees every hidden thing.
