Stien – We are HIS treasure
I have some socks. These are special ones, with sparrows and coins on them. I like the colour, I appreciate the gift, but I was never really wowed by the message they displayed. It’s Matthew 10:29 and I know it well. I just didn’t know why the coins had to be so prominent. Surely the sparrow was the main feature? This week I asked God why the coin was so important in that story. I don’t think I expected an answer, but recently I have been asking God to speak to me and he has. He told me that the coin was the price paid for the sparrows. They might not have been worth much, but he still cared about them. I knew that bit. Then he said that his son was the price paid for us. That wowed me. Something I know so well and haven’t taken in fully. In that story he’s telling us how much more important we are than sparrows and he cares about the sparrows. He notices what is happening in their lives. How much more, when the price paid was his son, does he notice what is happening in our lives and care about it. It turns out that the coin is pretty important. The price is important. His heart is where his treasure lies. He paid the most costly treasure for us. His heart is with us. Matt 6:21 (NIV) “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Wow! I never noticed that part of the verse before. Thank you for pointing the significance of the coins as the price paid for our sins.
