Keep your peace
Lianne – 8th January
I don’t know about you, but keeping my peace is something I have found challenging, especially during this current time. I was thinking the other day about that verse in Proverbs when Solomon says to “protect your heart for it is the wellspring of life“. I was thinking about how this ties into our peace. (Proverbs 4:23)
Do you ever find certain things can rob you of your peace? For me, I’ve realised that my phone, the news, social media, comments, etc. can affect the way I’m feeling and steal the joy I had. I’m not saying, by any means don’t have a phone etc. I’ve found it helpful to be aware of what can change my moods and bring me down, taking away the peace and joy that God gives us. In some areas I’ve had to give them up, because I’ve realised if I can’t do them without feeling a certain way then I need to guard my heart because it is the wellspring of life. If I let things creep in and take my joy then this affects everything and has the power to change my whole day, my relationships, my effectiveness as a Christian and my faith.
I love how our father cares for us so much and knows what’s best for us and gives us wisdom and his Holy Spirit; helping us to become more like Jesus.
“Protect your heart for it is the wellspring of life”. (Proverbs 4:23)

Very uplifting Lianne thankyou xx

This brings to mind the verse in Matthew 26:41 which explains (applying it to this context) how our spirit man is willing to give up the things that steal our peace, but the flesh is weak and would rather not. I love how you talk about being aware of these things, Lianne, and choosing to give up various things so you can hold onto your peace. It’s a good reminder for me to consider my peace more precious than the things that have a role in eating into it, and that my peace, the peace that passes all understanding, is worth preserving,
